Individual Counseling

Individual Therapy, Asheville Family Counseling, Stacey Curnow

We offer safe, supportive therapy that helps you address whatever it is that’s keeping you from feeling fully alive. We believe that pain and struggles present opportunities to learn and grow.

Together we’ll find your self-acceptance, strengths, and potential for positive growth. We’ll also look at the patterns that trip you up and experiment with new ways of being that best support you in living the life you want.

Our work with individuals draws primarily from Attachment Theory and the Person Centered and Internal Family Systems models of counseling. We use the therapeutic relationship itself as a vehicle for growth and healing of the individual. Ours is a non-blaming approach that assumes that human beings have inner resources of self-love and self-regulation to heal and grow.

In addition to the theoretical frameworks offered by Attachment Theory, Person Centered Therapy, and Internal Family Systems, Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) also helps us understand our clients. TIC recognizes the ubiquity of trauma and its widespread impact, especially among BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color), and understands that there are many potential paths for healing.

Our perspective views a client’s symptoms and behaviors as their best attempts to manage, cope with, and rise above their circumstances. With understanding and support, we believe we can all fully heal, learn new ways of being, and enjoy optimal health and wellness.

Together we create a safe space for you to gently and respectfully explore your inner world. Benefits include greater understanding of self, unburdening negative beliefs, accessing inner wisdom, strengthening connections with others, and increasing well-being.

A further note about our practice: We take responsibility for learning about current systems of oppression and how they do harm. We take accountability for our missteps and micro-aggressions. We consistently work to create an environment that is welcoming and affirming of people from different races/ethnicities, sexualities, gender identities, class strata, abilities, and religious/spiritual orientations. We have taken special training and received supervision around these identities/systems and have the ability to consult with someone around identities we don’t personally hold.

All of our clients are seen, heard, and valued for exactly who they are.
