Asheville Family Counseling Mission and Values

At Asheville Family Counseling we believe in creating the best atmosphere for our clients and clinicians and giving back to our community. Our mission is to help members of our communities reconnect with the things that are truly important and thrive, both in their own lives and in their relationships.

We strive to make overall wellness accessible to all. Our vision is to eliminate mental health stigma by creating awareness of, appreciation for, and acceptance of mental health care. We are a caring and compassionate team who values working collaboratively and helping improve the health and wellness of our community.

Our Values:

Asheville Family Counseling lives by values that guide who we are as a team and how we present to our communities. We hire staff who bring these values to life.

Creating strong relationships: Building strong, meaningful relationships is a basic need for all of us. We value building relationships within our community and helping our clients do the same. It’s also a hallmark of our business to promote strong, lasting bonds within our team and to work collaboratively both in the office and out in the community.

Serving the community: Part of our mission is to contribute to promoting wellness within the community through outreach, speaking engagements, and financial contributions.

We recognize the importance of a multidisciplinary approach in addressing the diverse mental health needs of our community, and we believe that collaboration between healthcare providers is paramount.

We actively collaborate with other care professionals such as occupational therapists, doctors, nurses, and teachers, just to name a few. By working together, we can ensure that our clients, especially children and families receive the best possible support and care.

Investing in quality: We provide the best atmosphere for our clients and our team. Our commitment is seen in a supportive workspace for our clinicians and a comforting space for our clients.

We offer the extra touches like beautifully decorated office space, a well-stocked tea station, high-quality play therapy materials, a collaborative environment for our team, and wrap-around services for our clients.

Most notably, we provide financial assistance to all of our clinicians for continued education* in evidence-based practices so that clients can feel safe knowing that our clinicians are always growing in their awareness and skills.

Promoting equity and inclusion: We promote hiring clinicians of varying backgrounds, beliefs, and specialties to better serve the diverse and unique experiences of our clients. It’s of paramount importance that Asheville Family Counseling promotes a foundation of equity and inclusion in its culture and practice.

We do our best to welcome people who don’t share our identities. We take responsibility for learning about current systems of oppression and how they do harm. We take accountability for our missteps and micro-aggressions

We consistently work to create an environment that is welcoming and affirming of people from different races/ethnicities, sexualities, gender identities, class strata, abilities, and religious/spiritual orientations. We take special training** and receive supervision around these identities/systems and have the ability to consult with someone around identities we don’t personally hold.

*All of our clinicians receive advanced training in the Collaborative and Proactive Solutions (CPS) model before beginning their employment.

**All of our clinicians receive advanced training from Resmaa Menakem’s Education for Racial Equity within the first six months of employment.
