“How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.”~ Anne Frank
I would love for this blog to join with Mary Jaksch from Goodlife Zen and Arvind Devalia from Make it Happen who are hosting the Blog with Heart Challenge. They have created this challenge to encourage bloggers to join forces with Kiva, a highly respected micro-lending nonprofit organization.
Here’s how YOU can do good in 4 easy steps.
Step 1: Subscribe to this blog. (By clicking on the small RSS button on the left side bar.)
Step 2: Sign up for Kiva here.
Step 3: Log into your Kiva account. Go to your Midwife For Your Life Lending Team and click the “Join Now” button.
Step 4: Go to the Kiva lending page and choose someone you want to lend to. When you get to the checkout, you’ll see that your loan has been added to the portfolio of your Midwife for Your Life’s Team.
Done! Your loan is on its way to help change a life. And when your loan is paid back to you, you can re-lend it and change another life. Pretty cool, huh?
(By the way, the minimum amount you can loan is $25. If this is more than you can manage, but you’d still like to contribute, please write a comment and perhaps you can form a “lending partnership” with another reader of this blog!)
I’m very excited about this project! So excited, in fact, that I just lent $100 to Karen Noemy Hidalgo Rodríguez of Costa Rica. She grows coffee beans and wants to buy natural fertilizer so she will enrich her crops, produce more and therefore have more income.
Like most women who request loans from Kiva, Karen hopes to offer her family a better quality of life and more economic stability through her entrepreneurial efforts.
Research from the United Nations and the World Bank shows that women tend to spend any money they have on food, clothing, health care and schooling for their children, which has immediate beneficial effects throughout their communities.
And please consider taking it a step further:
“It is one of the most beautiful compensations in life…we can never help another without helping ourselves.”~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
Please write to other bloggers and urge them to join the Blog with Heart Challenge. You can point them to more about how to join the Challenge. Tweet and Facebook like crazy and get everyone on board. Here is a shortened link that leads to info about the Challenge that you can use for Facebook and Twitter: http://bit.ly/SLNyU
And it all starts by taking the four steps above.
“Start by doing what’s necessary, then do what’s possible, and suddenly you are doing the impossible.”~ Saint Francis of Assisi
Please complete them, then email, tweet and Facebook your friends about what you have done (and possibly inspire them to follow your example). Come back here and share your comments and reflections!
